Wouldn’t it be great if people didn’t try to separate their roles in life from each other?
It happens… all the time

I am a woman… all the time.
I am a parent… all the time.
I am a writer… all the time.
I am an American Citizen (not an American consumer)… all the time.

I cannot turn these things on and off.

What I do when I am being one of these things affects the others… all the time.

How can I turn off being a woman or a parent when I exercise my right to vote as an American citizen? When I write, how can I turn off my womanliness or my motherhood? These things make me who I am. And all the time, every aspect of me affects every other part of me.

A great American philosopher said: I am what I am.

You said it, Popeye.
