When I read things like this it makes me sick to my stomach at how these people we elect to represent us have fucked it up.
The article states that “New York State Board of Regents, the governing body that overseas education in the state, has…canceled the teaching of history in grades K-8.” And that “student knowledge of history and their use of analytical skills and historical reasoning will no longer be assessed, so teachers and principals hard-pressed to raise test scores and earn bonuses can now concentrate on the rote learning of math and reading skills”.
This is not a joke. We have found the loophole… now instead of teaching our children any sort of history (how to learn from it, good and bad) we can just cram math and reading down their throats as well as take away any sort of fine arts and exercise programs. In fact, we can now hide the bad parts of history that we don’t really want to remember; the mistakes we’ve made. Who cares if we repeat them? That’s the future. What does that have to do with me now?
I’m sure the math and reading programs that are being used are lame as well. We seem to love to teach our children HOW something should be done, but not WHY it is done. We’ve been doing that for years. What’s a little less history, huh? We have standards to meet so we can get paid/ keep doing what we’re doing.
What a huge disappointment we are. Our future isn’t bright, our future is dim-witted and dumbed down.
