When it is a bright sunshiny day, I can see that it’s beautiful and I enjoy it. But days like today: overcast, drizzly, cool; those days are when I feel the most relaxed, content, normal.
Maybe I lived in the Pacific Northwest too long. Maybe it reminds me of the ocean. I love the ocean, but not for the beach. I love the smell of water in the air; not the loamy aroma of dirt, petrichor, but the cleanness; the way it smells after the rain washes the dirt out of the air.
In a few months, any gentle rains that come will only cause the dirt to stir and be absorbed; the fresh air will be absent from its wake, leaving only thick, smudged air. Only routine-altering downpours will alleviate the air from its heavy burden.
I love days like this. The colors are skewed and bright with new hue; like looking at the world through new eyes.
